A couple of months ago, I had the pleasure of a conversation with a very wise little girl.
She was trying biscuits dipped in milk for the first time—a classic childhood experiment. The look on her face told me all I needed to know. She did not enjoy it. Curious, I asked her what she thought. Her response stopped me in my tracks:
"That did not delight my life, so I won’t be doing it again."
It was such a beautifully childlike yet profound sentiment. Her words struck me with their simplicity and wisdom. There was no agonizing over her dislike, no need to justify her feelings—just an honest acknowledgment and a decision to let it go. Her words have stayed with me, echoing as a mantra I want to carry into the new year.
As adults, we often ignore this clarity. We stick with things that don't delight us, whether out of habit, obligation, or fear of change. We keep dipping proverbial biscuits in milk, enduring jobs that drain us, relationships that don't nourish us, or routines that feel more like drudgery than joy.
But what if we paused and embraced the wisdom of that little girl? What if we regularly asked ourselves:
Does this delight my life?
If not, why am I still doing it?
A Year of Choosing Delight
Delighting your life doesn't mean abandoning responsibilities or chasing pleasure recklessly. It means cultivating a life where joy and meaning guide your choices. Here's how I plan to apply this philosophy in 2025:
Work That Nourishes
I'm saying yes to projects and collaborations that spark creativity and no to tasks that feel misaligned.
Relationships That Uplift
Time is precious. I'm investing it in relationships that bring mutual joy and growth.
Experiences That Enrich
Whether it's learning a new skill or embracing quiet moments, I want my days to be filled with choices that resonate with my heart.
Boundaries That Protect
Sometimes delight comes from saying no. No to overcommitting. No to toxic situations. No to biscuits in milk if that's not your thing.
A Simple Question for Every Day
As I step into 2025, I plan to hold onto that little girl’s wisdom. When faced with a decision, big or small, I'll ask myself: Will this delight my life? If the answer is no, I’ll think twice before proceeding.
It’s a simple philosophy, but simplicity often holds the deepest truths. After all, life is too short to keep dipping biscuits into milk you don’t even like.
What will you stop doing in 2025 to make room for what truly delights your life? It's something to think on, isn't it?
